6 year old refuses to eat sometimes

Question

Our six year old son at times refuses to eat meals that we serve. If he refuses to eat dinner, we have been sending him to bed right away without eating. If it is breakfast or lunch, we send him from the table and don't serve him any special food. Should we wrap the food and serve it to him at the next meal? We want him to be healthy and we want him to learn to eat whatever is served. Also, if he plays with his food and eats some but takes too much time and only eats a portion of his food, should we treat that the same as refusing to eat a meal?
