Question
Regarding snide remarks, backtalk and surliness from teens, I am having a difficult time distinguishing what to address and what to let drop. Looking back at your responses, I see where we should ignore snide comebacks as long as she is doing what she was told to do. I can also ignore or diffuse with humor when she finds the most innocuous action of a parent "embarrassing" and hisses her displeasure. Other times she tells one of us we need to "chill out," which I would put in the highly disrespectful category but I'm not sure how to respond. Is there a way to easily categorize these so I know what action will be most effective?
