Discipline by Divorced Dad

Question

I have been divorced from my wife for 3 years, we were separated for 2 years prior to the divorce. for the 2 years of separation, we split custody 50/50 completely even.

I still have 50/50 custody, but during the school year, I only have my children from Wed - Mon every other week. I have them almost all summer long.

Recently (since the new school year started) my children (Daughter 10 - 5th grade, son 8-3rd grade) have started talking back, displaying attitude, and disobeying me. When I punish them by sending them to their room, they carry on and say that they can't wait until they are old enough to just stay with their mom, and not have to deal with me because I am too strict, and don't love them.

Help! I am worried that if I don't ease up on discipline they will simply choose to live with their mother, but if I ease up on discipline I will not raise them right. What can I do. (their mother was unfaithful, and is still very bitter and resentful, and does not support my parenting).
