Our fourteen year old daughter recently let us know that she has been having sexual attraction toward a female teacher. She specifically mentioned her heart leaps when she is around the teacher and that she has imagined herself kissing her. She's also mentioned a class gift she received from the teacher smells like the teacher and makes her think about her. Our daughter is now obsessing that she is gay. We have responded by letting her know this does not mean she is gay, letting her know we love her no matter what, and that it is normal for kids to have confusing thoughts concerning sexuality during their teens. We have never questioned her sexuality, and she recently had a crush on a boy. After many discussions over a one week period, we told her it was best for us to agree not to discuss any longer; that it would just make her obsess more about it. What are your thoughts? Is this the right approach?
