College Responsibilities

Question

My 19 year old son is home for the summer after his freshman year of college. His first year seemed promising with lots of dreams. He did not join the party scene and managed the major change in life fairly well, except, he failed a class each of the three quarters. His response is that it's normal the first year and that many of his friends have too and that college is "hard". We are frustrated and don't feel it's responsible financially to send him back after this, but worry he will become lazy and aimless at home. Should we send him back?
