Nap Time Drama

Question

My almost 3 year old refuses to sleep at nap time, even though she desperately needs a nap. So she has a 2 hour quiet time in her bed (with books and quiet toys). Recently she has decided that she despises this activity and so when I get ready to leave the room she starts clinging to me, lunging at me if I do happen to get away from her clutches all while screaming at the top of her lungs. Yikes... Why am I trying to run from my child? If I make it to the door, she will stay in her room but she continues to scream at the top of her lungs.

Is a quiet time worth this? How do I break this cycle or get her to rest in her bed without the DRAMA and trauma?
