"In the eyes of a child, parents are "mean" when the child discovers that they mean what they say. "

OK to be a follower?

Question

My almost 6 1/2 year old is a very observant and always has been. Instead of jumping right in- it takes her awhile and she like to watch first- which I have grown to love. I have always known she was more of a follower than a leader. How do I get her to become alittle more independent and confident in her decisions? We just got back from a family vacation with another family who we know well- I noticed my daughter did everything that the other child did. Down to ordering food that she didn't really even like but did it anyways because the other child did. She seems to do this with whomever she is hanging around with- I know this is somewhat normal at her age but I do think she is way more so on this than her other friends. Any advice? Thank you!
