Question
We have two issues that have popped up this past week with our 29-month-old. For background, we moved her upstairs to her “big-girl room” a month ago, which she took to immediately and was very excited to be upstairs with her big sisters. About three days after moving her, she climbed out of her crib for the first time, and then started doing that after every nap/night. So, we converted her crib to a toddler bed a couple weeks ago. In addition, we have another child due in eight weeks, so we’d really like to get these issues under control before he arrives!
1) We used your potty-training method at 22 months and she was daytime trained by 23 months. She’s continued to progress very well over the past 6 months, to the point where I never worried she would have an accident—always told us when she needed to go. (She is still in diapers during naps/nighttime because she still has very wet diapers for both.) But over the past week, she has had four accidents, all at times when she’s used the bathroom within the last 20 minutes. Any suggestions on how to handle this?
2) She used to sleep from 7pm to 6:30am and nap from noon to 2:30 or 3pm—like clockwork. Since converting her crib to a bed, she is getting up at 4-5am and only napping an hour or an hour and a half. Our guess is that these are probably times when she’s waking naturally, but since she can easily get out of bed now, she’s more enticed by that idea than turning over and going back to sleep. Help! We are exhausted and don’t know how to handle this!
