Question
A good friend's 16-year-old daughter says that she's depressed and doesn't want to live any more. Her grades have gone from As to Cs, Ds & Fs. Any time her parents try to take away things that are important to her (friends & her cell phone, namely), she says that they can't take away those things because it will just make her more depressed and more suicidal. They are starting her on an anti-depressant, but understand that it's not the miracle remedy. Essentially, any advice on disciplining a teenager who uses her mental health as an excuse to not discipline her?
