Question
My 3.5 year old has rest time every day for an hour. My problem is he frequently comes out of his room, calls my name from the top of the stairs or simply makes noises till I take him back to his room. This time is precious to me for lots of reasons- and I am not willing to give it up. I need help 'putting the monkey' on his back, as Dr. Rosemond would say.
In the past, I've tried locking him in; spanking him; taking a ticket (we use the ticket system).
I try not to show my frustration and have of late, been saying 'I'm so sorry you chose to disobey and not stay in your room. Later, you will be sorry for that choice.' Then, I withhold a popsicle, small treat or some other yummy edible given to my younger son.
What do you suggest?
Thank you.
