Question
My 10 year-old daughter has been verbally mean to one of her friends on and off for many years. She will say mean things about this person's weight or other issues right to her face sometimes when other adults are present. Our daughter tries to pass it off as "joking" which we never accept. We are very good friends with this family and it is devastating to see your child treat other children like this. We discipline her every time we become aware of a situation like this. But it seems like it doesn't help and every couple of months I get another phone call about something hurtful she said. Is it appropriate to try and get her counseling on how to feel more empathy for others? Should our punishments be harsher?
