College student lessons.

Question

Against our advice, our college student chose a roommate known to be prone to histrionics. Before the decision was made, we outlined all the potential ramifications but let her make the final decision. Despite some good times, the stress has been enormous on her and also reared its ugly head with her more defiant, snappish and rude behavior toward us that we have seen the roommate model. Our student will be living with several other students next year, all quiet studious, serious students, and does not want to include the current roommate but does not have the guts to tell her so. Since we are funding the living arrangements and have seen the negative impact first hand, would a stipulation that we will not fund the living expenses if said student is part of it an appropriate response or do we allow her weak-kneed lack of action to continue to have the negative ramifications we have seen thus far?
