Question
We have a 14 year old son who is in the middle of writing a research paper. He is generally responsible, does his own homework without being told, and gets good grades. We do not hover over him, and we encourage him to take responsibility for his work and manage his time. Yesterday he came home and told us that his teacher (who assigned the said research paper) told the class that they should not receive any help with the paper - that parents are not to even proofread the paper before turning it in. We do not tell him what to write in his paper. He has handled this assignment on his own. However, if he asks us to proofread his work, we have always been happy to do so. We see that as him being responsible. After all, even writers have editors, right? Is the teacher going overboard with no proofreading by parents?
