Unsupervised Backyard Play?

Question

I was a child of the Eighties and was allowed to play outside in our front yard (without a fence) without supervision starting at about age 5 or 6. I was often outside playing with the neighbor kids and my older sister. My mom was always nearby in our townhouse, but I don't have any memories of her actually standing outside watching over us. I currently send my daughters (ages 5 and 7) outside in the backyard to play for about an hour before lunch each day. I can see them from the kitchen window. I would like to send them outside to play in the afternoon after they've finished home school; however, like my mom, I have things to do and can't sit at the kitchen window watching them. Our back yard has a privacy fence on two of the three sides but the girls are by no means fenced in. I feel comfortable having them play outside with minimal supervision on my part. I have taught them stranger danger. I am wondering if this sounds acceptable for their ages?
