Question
My 4.5 year old son is still waking up wet every night. Nine months ago we tried going with no pull-ups for six weeks. He woke up wet every single night, sometimes more than once. Never did he wake up to go to the bathroom before he was wet. So I took a break and decided to give it another try when he was dry at least some nights a week. Well, that hasn't happened. I asked him if he ever woke up during the night needing to go to the bathroom and he said no. He is a really heavy sleeper. There have been a couple of nights that he's so wet that his pull up has leaked and that did wake him up. My question is do you think it's time to try again to go without the pull ups, is it time to get an alarm, is he just a really heavy sleeper and we need to give it more time or should I take off the pull-ups, give him some waterproof mattress pads and tell him to cover the wet spot, change PJ's , go potty and get back in bed?? I'm all for making him responsible for his own messes, but I don't want to ask him to deal with something he's not developmentally ready for yet. Thank you!
