Question
My 4.5 yr old son often does not respond to adults (and often children) when they greet him or ask him a question. I will ask him a simple question (what do you want to eat at a restaurant) and he won't look at me and will speak so quietly that I can't hear him. He's not always a shy child and can speak loudly and respond when he wants to. I am embarrassed by him not looking at or responding to family friends when they ask him a question or say hello. I am tired of constantly prodding him to respond to others or say hi to Grandma. We push him to look us in the eye and answer questions and he does so reluctantly (darting eyes around the room). What should we be doing differently?
