Nearly 6 Year Old Back Talking

Question

My son (who will be 6 in May) is beginning to "back talk," mostly by calling me a "meanie" when I tell him something he doesn't like, (telling him to do a chore, time for homework, no snacks at the time he asks, no candy right now, etc.) This has become more frustrating because now it has taught my almost 3 year old daughter to do the same when she is unhappy with something that my wife and I, or her brothers do.

Do you have any suggestions for getting rid of this back talk/disrespect? I've told him over and over that it's disrespectful and rude, and I've taken privileges away (ie: he asks later on to watch something or play on the iPad and I tell him no, he isn't allowed to do these things when he has been disrespectful and remind him of what he has said earlier/the day before). As for my daughter, I firmly tell her no, that we don't talk like this and that is isn't respectful. (And I do on occasion point out to the brother who started it to see what he has taught her, which he denies of course!)

Thank you!
