Question
Our 5 year old son recently started playing on a flag football team. His father is a high school football coach and they seem share in the love of the game. The first game went really well and he seemed to be very excited about it, but after the second game he became very anxious and fearful of making a mistake and of someone tackling him. Again, this is FLAG football. We have tried to be sensitive and address his concerns, but explained that he would have to finish the season as he made a commitment and would need to follow through. We also told him that he did not have to play next year if he decided he didn't want to. Are we doing the right thing? He cries at the games and refuses to participate in certain positions. It's very out of character for him and I'm not sure how we should be handling this situation.
