Conversations with 6 year olds

Question

When we ask our six year son old questions like "Tell us something you did at school today!", "What did you do at Grandma's house?", "Who did you play with at the park this afternoon?", we often get a shrug and the response of "I don't know" or "I forgot."

I know this is very common with kids (my mom says I was a bad offender!). What is reasonable to expect? We are hardly grilling him on every detail of his day, but we'd like to know a little bit of what goes on with his life when he's not with us. What is a reasonable reaction or expection around this issue?
